Running a restaurant is always a challenge, but one of the major issues which you are always going to have to face is how to ensure there is enough space for everything to operate properly. Not only do you need to make sure that your kitchen can operate as successfully as possible, you also need to ensure that your customers can be as truly comfortable as can be, all of which requires a certain amount of space to be created. It is of course first important to know how much space you need, which is something that you don’t want to rush in the working out, so that you can then work on getting that room. But how can you actually do that, once it comes to it? In this post, we are going to discuss some of the clever ways in which you might be able to create a little more space in your restaurant.

Minimize Your Back Office

Chances are, you are going to need some kind of a back office in order to be able to run your restaurant business smoothly. But you might find that you don’t actually need this space to be as big as you might initially think, and it is certainly worth trying to ensure that you keep this as small as possible. You want to maximize space in the more important parts of the restaurant, so anything you can do to minimize your back office is likely to work well and be a good idea to follow. You could decide to have all of your mail redirected to another address via online virtual mail companies, so that you don’t have to store lots of paperwork in your own office, for instance. Or you might want to make a point of keeping records digitally, so that you don’t need much space at all.

Make Use Of The Outside

Whatever kind of outdoor space you might have, it is a good idea to try your hardest to make good use of it, whatever that entails. Even if you only have a small veranda on a busy city street, you would be missing a trick not to use that area for a few tables and chairs at least. Similarly, if you have a restaurant which is located out in the country, and you own a little of the land around it, there is absolutely no reason not to use this in the same manner. These changes will create more space inside while simultaneously drawing in more customers.

Generate The Illusion Of Space

If you have exhausted all other options, but you still want to try and create a little more space in your restaurant, then you can of course always go about instead merely creating the illusion of space. The way that people tend to do this most often is with mirrors, and that can indeed be a valuable way to use wall space – but don’t overdo it. It is best to follow the credo of ‘less is more’ here, as that is more likely to find the balance between space and design.
